Abstract:

Offret (145 min.): Alexander's family has gathered at his remote cottage to celebrate, but the festivities are marred by family squabbling and then by the news that the low-flying jet planes are the start of a nuclear war between the superpowers. As the terror sinks in for the family, Alexander is troubled by strange dreams until Otto the postman informs him that he may have the power to save the world by making a terrible sacrifice.

Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky (101 min.): This film shows the director Andrei Tarkovsky in action as he makes his own picture "The sacrifice." The program explains the motivation behind the film and contains illuminatin of Tarkovsky's working methods and style and how he overcame various technical problems during the film-making. Includes interviews with members of the cast and crew.
