Résumé:
Augustine was one of the most remarkable figures of the early Christian church. Born in North Afirca in AD 354, the son of a pagan farmer, he rose to become Bishop of Hippo and a hugely influential Christian writer. The extracts have been chosen to express Augustine's wisdom and his mystical yearning for God; at the same time they tell the story of his dissolute youth, his ascent to the imperial court in Milan and his conversion to Christianity at the age of thirty-two.
